Today’s Sales Nugget

A shoe salesperson was sent to open up a new territory on an island.  After a week, he sent a telegram to the home office: “Whoever came up with this idea ought to be shot at dawn—they don’t wear shoes here.”

The company then sent a second salesperson to the same island.  He sent a telegram, too; it read, “Whoever came up with this idea is a genius—they all need shoes.”

I am sure you are familiar with the term “Non-Supportive Beliefs”

These two salesmen are perfect example of how we view our world with our beliefs and how it shapes our results. One saw the challenge and felt threatened while the second saw opportunity in the similar situation. One was caged in the non-supportive beliefs while the other will certainly enjoy the freedom of the results he would produce. The truth is our beliefs will shape the results we deliver.

Henry Ford once said, “If you believe you can do a thing, or if you believe you can’t do a thing, you’re right.”  Its an awesome quote to dwell on.

So, what are some of your non-supportive beliefs?

The easier way to find them is to identify the list of thoughts that are holding you back. The list could include:

  1. I am not a natural sales person
  2. It’s difficult for me to negotiations
  3. Objections are difficult to handle
  4. I cannot speak with the C-Suit Team
  5. Asking questions to my prospects is inappropriate
  6. Never say “No” to any prospect
  7. I should not let me prospect go
